Reclaiming Black Women’s and Sexual Health and Family Wellbeing
November 2024
The first SHERO event took place on Saturday, 23rd November 2024, at St Mark’s Church, Kennington. Over 100 attendees and 11 stalls representing organisations such as Health Watch Lambeth, Prostate Cancer UK, CAHN and Africa Advocacy Foundation.
Speakers: Dr. Allegra Slorance, Juddy Ottis, and Fabiola Bayavuge. Talks addressed myths and barriers around sexual and reproductive health, with a focus on culturally competent care.
Activities: Soca dancing, drumming, chair exercises, boxing, and children’s activities like face painting and colouring.
The event successfully blended education, community engagement, and health services. The SHERO initiative continues to empower and connect the Black community in Lambeth.
